My Approach

Hi, I'm Rachel McEwen and I provide therapy for people in Oregon and Ohio.

I am a relational therapist at heart, which means I strive to build a meaningful therapeutic relationship with you so that healing and growth can occur. Therapy to me is a collaborative experience, and we will work together to find what motivates and energizes you. During therapy, you will be able to process through your struggles and learn practical skills and new ways of being that will help you feel more balanced in life.

I have over a decade of experience working with people who struggle with issues such as anxiety, depression, relationship issues, trauma, and self-esteem, just to name a few. My approach is trauma-informed and integrative. I do my best to be aware and sensitive to your life experience and will adapt my therapeutic approach to best fit your needs. I always strive to provide a space where you can be yourself without judgement. As your therapist, I promise to be open-minded and genuine with you. I am committed to being present with you every step of the way.

I welcome people of all races, genders, sexualities, and religions.

As your therapist, I will meet you where you are. I will work side-by-side with you through this challenging time.

A Little About My Professional Background

I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Antioch College located in the magical Yellow Springs, Ohio. Afterwards, I packed my bags and headed West to Portland, Oregon, where I received my Master of Science in Professional Mental Health Counseling. After living in Oregon for 6 years, I decided it was time to move back to Ohio so that I could serve my hometown community. I have now circled back around to Portland where I am happily planting my roots. I am licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Oregon and a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in the State of Ohio. I am also certified as a National Certified Counselor (NCC) by the National Board for Certified Counselors.

 My Purpose

I knew from the age of 8 years old that I wanted to be a therapist, I guess you could say it was my calling. I was not dealt the best hand in life and I had a very challenging time growing up. I struggled with anxiety and depression and felt hopeless at times with where my life was going to end up. Finally getting to see a therapist for myself as a young adult, the impact of therapy was life-changing. I felt more confident in the decisions I was making and was able to set healthy boundaries with people who were toxic for me. I know how hard life can be when you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel. I know what it feels like when life just seems to be happening around you and you just feel stuck. My struggles have shown me that sometimes you have to light up that tunnel yourself, but you don't have to do it alone.

Living a balanced and fulfilling life is possible, and I'm here to help guide you there.
